Born in Stockholm in 1933, Carlo began his formal studies at age 14 at the Stockholm School of Fine Art.
He first visited the United States for a year in 1949, when he was introduced to the American Indian tribes. In 1957 he moved to North America and studied at the Winnipeg School of Art. In 1960 he permanently moved to Southern California where makes his home.
The following thirty-five years were filled with travel in the Southwestern United States, living and working among the Navajos and Zunis. He spent two years in Mexico living among the Huichole Indians. This ever-changing, very personal man was once more moved to a deeper self-expression clearly revealed when he began research into the cast paper medium. Between 1979 and today, he mastered his technique and came to control it.
The evolution of Carlo’s art has shown much diversification with the result being that his works are in prominent, private, and corporate collections as well as museums both here and abroad.

Cast Paper
What is cast paper? For thousands of years the art of paper making - the combining of fibers and water - has been a tool of communication. In modern times, linen and cotton fibers predominately are used.
In my cast paper "Carnival in Venice," a 30" x 40" sculpture, 55 gallons of a mixture of pure fine cut ¼" cotton fiber at a ratio of 1 part fiber to 250 parts of water is used.
There is spirituality in the medium - the way it reflects the light.
Allow me to introduce you to one of my specialties: the reverse image. In "Primavera," an inverted casting, the opposite is true: where we have shadows, she has light. The image follows the viewer as you pass the sculpture.

Mixed Media
The following sculptures - cast in bonded copper in resin base, a new medium from my studios is very exciting with the materials wonderful properties of fine detailed castings. By using the original molds from past and present I am able to combine traditional sculpture with a very contemporary look in the acrylic medium.
After the sculpture has been hand detailed and finished in proper patina - using copper, gold and silver bronze powders, the sculpture is mounted.
An original painting is added in mixed mediums. The result - a very dramatic presentation of its subject.
